Normally one of the most anticipated rivalries on the NRL calendar, this match has been weakened by State of Origin with M.Pearce, B.Cordner, B.Ferguson and D.Napa all unavailable for the Roosters. Souths are coming off their biggest win of the year and the Roosters off their biggest loss. On paper, this all appears to add up to an easy Souths Sydney victory. Things don’t quite work like that in the NRL however, where it is common to see teams backing up from big losses and putting on notable upsets. Add in some extra venom for the rivalry and we should have a potentially great game. We see Souths winning, but having to do it the hard way.
Interesting note on this rivalry: these two teams have been 1-1 after their two regular season matches every season for the past 7 years. Roosters beat Souths 20-6 earlier this year…

The QLD Origin selectors have done Manly a favour and left DCE available to play club footy this weekend. Penrith will be looking to bounce back after a very embarrassing loss to South Sydney on Sunday while the Panthers side is bolstered by the return of James Fisher-Harris and Mitch Rein to their forward pack. Manly lose J.Trbojevic (SOO) and L.Brown (knee injury). Despite being much lower than Manly on the ladder, punters are sniffing an upset brewing and have both teams at around even money. We don’t disagree and see this match going down to the wire.

Melbourne Storm have done well through all Origin impacted rounds this season. Against the Cowboys, young Brodie Croft knocked over the winning field goal in Golden Point, showing that the Storm’s young guns were ready to assume the throne of the “Big 3”. The Storm are relentless; the Storm are intimidating. This at least is what most of the public will be seeing. We however, are keen to take them on. What we see is a vastly under experienced team coming up against a top 8 team unimpacted by SOO. Storm are now without Munster, set to make his SOO debut, along with their five other Origin players.

We correctly picked the Knights to get rolled 13+ last week and are in the same mood this week. While the Knights have put in some good efforts and have been good for the occasional upset, their roster is still well behind being of NRL standard. The Bulldogs are missing B.Morris, J.Jackson and D.Klemmer, due to SOO, though still have what should be far superior forward pack. Fun to note the Bulldogs are the only team with a worse attack than the Knights, having scored 30 fewer points than the Knights this season. Despite this, Bulldogs are still 105 for-and-against points better off due to their much stronger defensive capabilities. This leads us to believe that it will be a lower than expected scoring game.
